Income Innovation Day 2025: Key Takeaways From A Momentous Event

Innovation is the key to the future of social housing – a notion that we brought to life on 6th February at the Voicescape Income Innovation Day 2025. Income professionals, sector leaders and Voicescape users came together for a momentous event in Birmingham, where:

    • We welcomed keynote speaker Ian Wright, CEO of the Disruptive Innovators Network (DIN), who shared his expert insights on how innovation from outside the sector can inspire change
    • Christian Hartley from Stockport Homes and Helen Caldwell from Stonewater revealed their journey with Voicescape over the years in an insightful collaborative networking session
    • Gary Haynes, our Managing Director, and other Voicescape leaders unveiled the latest innovation in the social housing income arena that will transform repayment agreements

Attendees learned from one another and explored new ways to improve services while witnessing how the latest thinking in AI, behavioural insights and machine learning can be leveraged to forge a better financial future for social housing.

The future of social housing technology

A major paradigm shift in technology is underway in the sector. By staying attuned to market changes and listening and collaborating with customers, Voicescape has been able to develop data-driven, AI-powered solutions where machine learning and behavioural insights enhance customer service, income collection and operational efficiency.

While our goal remains the same – to support social landlords in delivering a seamless, intelligent and highly responsive tenant experience – we will never stop evolving our solutions to give customers the tools, capacity and freedom to stay one step ahead of a rapidly changing landscape. This sentiment was echoed by an enlightening presentation from our keynote speaker, Ian Wright.

Disrupting the status quo - Ian Wright, CEO of DIN

Ian’s insights encapsulated the danger of avoiding innovation in a sector where the cost of inaction will be greater than the investment of adopting new ways of working. He went on to highlight the fact that innovation isn’t always about big budgets, but about rethinking solutions, embracing disruption and actively learning from failure.

When landlords see through this lens, they can confidently invest in solutions that directly address their needs and challenges. It’s about being proactive against problems, challenging outdated legacy systems that no longer serve tenants, and experimenting with a technology partner who can help you embrace the future.

With Voicescape leading the charge in housing technology and engagement analytics, Ian’s talk reinforced the importance of leveraging data, AI, and automation to enhance tenant experiences and income collection. Housing providers can no longer afford to stand still. The choice is simple: adapt or be left behind.

Innovation in action - Christian Hartley, Stockport Homes and Helen Caldwell, Stonewater

Two Voicescape users engaged the room with their stories of how our solutions deliver income excellence and form a strong catalyst for future innovation. Thank you to Christian Hartley, Assistant Director – Customer Excellence at Stockport Homes, and Helen Caldwell, Head of Income Maximisation at Stonewater, for sharing your real-world applications.

Here’s a snapshot of their arrears improvement journeys with Voicescape Caseload Manager:

    Stockport Homes

    The challenge:

    • Income officers handled an overwhelming volume of cases manually
    • Engagement relied on manual text campaigns
    • The previous income analytics solution lacked automation, creating inefficiencies
    • Only 60-70% of cases received the necessary follow-up due to time constraints

    The solution:

    • Stockport Homes needed a solution that automated engagement while ensuring high-quality, meaningful conversations
    • They were drawn to Caseload Manager for its real-time case recommendations and automation capabilities

    Results since go-live:

      • £333,000 reduction in arrears on current tenant accounts (as of January 2024)
      • £80,000 additional cash collection from former tenant arrears in just three months
      • 40% reduction in manual case interventions, freeing up officer time for proactive work
40% of automated calls and texts resulted in successful tenant engagement
    • 20% increase in call duration, reflecting more meaningful tenant conversations

    Stonewater

    The challenge:

    • A dedicated income team was established after their 2015 merger, but they struggled to see tangible progress in collections

    The solution:

    • Partnered with Voicescape in 2019 to introduce our Collections solution, which automated customer outreach and helped target intervention efforts
    • Extensive training was provided to income officers
    • In 2022, the organisation procured Caseload Manager to present cases requiring intervention, automate communication, and enable effective weekly case management – launched in 2023

    Results since go-live:

    • Better segmentation and management of cases, improved customer engagement, and more efficient handling of income recovery tasks
    • Automation features, such as filters for notice periods and integration with payment systems (like allpay), helped the team reduce manual workload and reallocate resources effectively during staff absences
    • Collaboration with Voicescape has been ongoing, with regular feedback sessions and training updates ensuring the system meets the evolving needs of the team
    • Stonewater has exceeded its target by reducing gross debt by £2 million – doubling the initial goal of a £1 million reduction within 12 months

Introducing our breakthrough new solution - Agreements Manager, launching April 2025
